Jim’s composing and producing credits span over 20 years in the industry having established three successful music houses since the early 90’s.
Tileface Music, branded Sunny Delight, serviced clients including NW Ayer and Chiat Day. Jim composed music for AT&T, Seiko, Nissan, Miller Beer, Squirt, Molson, to name a few. In the late 90’s he launched Madbus Music and scored a big hit with the network ID signature “4 note” earcon for ABC.
This led to more network ID business and paved the way for producing trailers and scoring films. To date, Jim has scored twelve films including “Reaching Normal” (Anne Heche), “Some Girl” (Rory Kelly), “Dark Drive” and “Interceptor Force” (Phil Roth). In the early 2000’s, Jim established Eggchair Music which, for nearly 10 years, concentrated Jim’s efforts in the theatrical trailer world.
In 2007, Jim arranged and produced the “Dawn of Revelation” CD for Irish sensation Mairead and is currently working on her sophomore CD. He produced and arranged Canadian pop/rock legend Andy Kim’s upcoming project, “Make it Happen Again” which features two singles co-written by Jim.
With partners Tim Landers and Gannin Arnold, Jim recently launched Triode Music, a new writing and production company collaborating on commercial hits for recording artists and compiling a catalog of original compositions for music licensing to Film and Television. Their first collaboration, It’s All For You” was featured in the Hallmark Channel re-branding campaign as the networks brand identity slogan. Triode recently composed exclusive music for the MGM feature film “Other End of the Line”,
Jim grew up in Portland Oregon. After graduating from Wilson High School, he went to Paris to further his music studies. After a year abroad, becoming fluent in French and studying classical saxophone, he returned to the U.S. and studied piano and saxophone in San Francisco with the intention of attending Cal Berkeley. However, the pursuit of rock ‘n’ roll overshadowed the college dream and Jim moved to New York City to hone his musician skills and “rock out”…..
After performing with local bands in the East Village, Jim joined the “John Cale Band” in 1980, and recorded his first major label album with the Velvet Underground star. The album is titled “Honi Soit” and the artwork was designed by legendary Andy Warhol. An offer to join Los Angeles based glitter pioneers “Sparks” brought Jim to California where he resides today. After spending two years with “Sparks”, Jim joined “The Call”. He wrote, produced, and performed with “The Call” from 1983 until 1991 recording five albums for three major labels and working with industry icons including Bono, Peter Gabriel, Robbie Robertson, and T Bone Burnett.
